The criteria i currently use for determining the quality of a film are as follows:
The film must show the director's creativity through character development, set up of scenes and over all plot line.
The film must have a clear enough direction, i do not want a to be spending the whole entire movie trying to figure out what this film is about.
I think an example of a good film is a clockwork orange because while the main character never really went through what we called character development, the character was put through many scenarios which he is unaccustomed to. This provides me with an interesting plot line while expressing the author's creativity.
I think an example of a bad film is disaster movie because it has little plot structure and relies on cheap jokes and half baked punchlines to get it through. The only crativity the director expresses is by mocking other film characters instead of comming up with new ones.
The criteria I currently use for determining the quality of a film are: the plot has to original and creative; the visual effects have to be consistent with the era and story; the actors should deliver a good performance by separating themselves entirely from the character in order to genuinely represent the character; there has to be a realistic aspect, or verisimilitude; the writers and/or director should be conveying some sort of meaningful and insightful message that the audience is able to recognize at some point throughout the film.
An example of a good film is Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner (1967). The story was pertinent to the era of civil rights and took a monumental step in bringing a light hearted and even comedic vibe to such a controversial issue of the time, interracial marriage. The film fairly represented both races and easily made it a comfortable and funny must-see for people across racial lines. The wonderful Sidney Poitier, Spencer Tracy, and Katharine Hepburn all acted incredibly well together on screen. It is a prime example of classy humor often lacking in film today.
An example of a bad film is Christmas with the Kranks (2004). I find the plot and message to be cliché alongside numerous Christmas movies in the industry, with far too many forced and inappropriately timed jokes. Tim Allen is especially obnoxious in this film as he plays a terrible version of Ebenezer Scrooge who has the most awkward relationship with Jamie Lee Curtis on screen.
The criteria I currently use for determining the quality of a film are : the main purpose of the film acheive or not, this depends on the materials and the film maker. If this movie should be a serious educational movie, but finally become a very funny comedy, it could not be a good movie. And then, an unforgetable scene, gesture, or a word can make a not bad movie become a good movie.
I think an example of a good film is Dead Poets Society, the movie I just watch and make me cried. It has a really educational story, and the whole story is about the main word: Dead Poets society, and I will never forget the word: Go! Captain go! The film is about the thinking of life, and controling the direction of life. And it really make me thinking about it during the whole film plays.
I think an example of a bad film is the film copied idea from "The Day After Tommorow". I can't remember those name of the films, but obviously, copying idea or story from a film that warns people and make people thinking is a stupid decision. Because people just need to think it once.
The criteria I use for determining the quality of a film are: it has actors I know and like in it, the plot, because if the story isn't interesting I'm not going to sit in a. Ovid theater for 2 hours. Also the movie needs to have a good amount of action in otherwise I will get bored.
An example of a good movie is A Bronx Tale, this is a good movie because the plot is really good, and there is not too much acton where you don't even know wha the plot is and you are just paying attention to all of the actin. However I believe the director balanced out the amount of action and the amount of talking perfectly.
An example of a bad movie is the new Charlie and the chocolate factory because no one can compare to the original. Johny depp is not a good willy wonks, and it makes me sad that kids now a days will think of that as the original willy wonks.
My personal criteria I use to determine what a “good film” and a “bad film” are basically, the genre, the setting, and plot. For example, I am the type of person who enjoys a movie with several different genres that intertwine with each other. Such as, 27 Dresses, which combines romance and a comedy. Movies that have more than one genre typically are more entertaining. The setting of a movie is also another way for me to determine what is a good movie. I generally like to be in and see movies that take place in an urban area, such as, The Dark Night . Last, a good plot means a good movie. For me if the plot is slow in the beginning or takes a while to reach the climax than to me it’s a “bad film”. Generally, a movie that has a multiple genres, an urban setting or takes a place in an populated area, and has a fast paced plot, it is considered a “good film”.
An example of a good film is, The Dark Night. Simply because to me the plot was excellent, even though it was a long film, I felt the pace was fast enough to keep an audience engaged. I like the sound effects and music that was played during the movie and went along with the story. The costumes and makeup were very detailed, such as the Joker and Two Faced. The movie was combined with action, suspense, and even romance. Which are all qualities that I consider a good film.
An example of a bad film to me now are movies that deal with uncontrollable spread of diseases or the end of the world. At first it was an interesting to explore and talk about, however now its starting to become redundant and are becoming similar to one another, unless a director can create a less typical and more of a realistic type of movie. An example of a movie, is 2012. I was very disappointed when I saw the movie, it was very unrealistic and I didn’t like the fact the main character was able to dodge multiple near death experiences and just didn’t seem real. Also the ending was predictable and cliché.
The criteria I currently use for for determining the quality of a film are if the plot goes well with the genre. I also decide on a film based on the genre, whether it's comedy or suspenseful. Along with the genre, I like a movie based on the actors.
I think an example of a good film is It's a Wonderful Life because no matter how many times you watch the movie, it will always be a classic. It is a positive, uplifting story.
I think an example of a bad film is All About Steve because even though I never saw this movie, I could tell by the trailers that there was not a good plot, even though I like both of the actors, this movie just did not seem like a good movie to go see.
The criteria I currently use for determining the quality of ilm are numerous but there are really just three big ones that have to be met. For starters, the movie needs good music in it. If a movie doesn't have good music in tends to lose my interest pretty quickly. Next, the actors ihe movie have to fit their character well. I don't necessarilmean that every movie should be filled with really famouactors, I just think the actors should be people who caproperly assume their given role. Movies would be awfuwithout that, because while it would be entertaining to see Zach Galifianakis play the incredible Hulk, it would nomake for a particularly good superhero movie. Finally thmovie needs a compelling plot. I enjoy a movie most when it challenges me, or forces me to think about it on different level. This isn't to say that movies with smallplotsare bad, for example, "Napoleon Dynamite" is a great movie, it's just that making a movie with little plot is very hard to do.
I think an example of a good film is "The Prestige". The movie has a compelling plot filled with many twists and puzzles for the audience to be baffled by, which keeps it interesting. The movie also dealt with some powerful themes such as obsession, secrecy, and sacrifice. The choice of actors for the film was excellent as well, Hugh Jackman and Christian Bale made for excellently dark people, and the on-screen synergy they had as rivals and enemies was excellent, the intensity of their feud could really be felt. And this movie actually had very little music in it. However, in this particular case, it was the lack of music that really brought the themes and the story forwards. The absence of music created a certain tension that lingered throughout the film, which was a terrific effect for it. The only scene with really any music was the death scene in the beginning where a group of contrasting and dark notes were played to add relate the death and the characters affected by it. For these reasons do I think "The Prestige" is great.
I think an example of a bad film is Titanic: the Legend Goes On. The movie is so bad that it doesn't deserve the dignity of quotation marks. The movie steals elements from several Disney movies and tries to make the story have a happy ending even though they clearly show that 90% of the passengers did not survive the shipwreck. The movie is about Cinderella (they call her Amelia in the movie, but they aren't fooling anyone) and her step family getting on the Titanic. Cinderella hopes to meet her mother who abandoned her as a baby, and lucky her, her mom just happens to be on the boat. She also falls in love with a rich stranger who has almost no interaction with her whatsoever. Did I mention that this movie was a musical? There is one song in particular that confuses me. A dog begins rapping a song called "It's Party Time" with the line leading into it being something along the lines of 'you saved me from getting digested.' Also two mice kill a third mouse via completing a circuit using his whiskers to connect wires so the ship has electricity before it sinks. The movie is sick and depraved and should never have been created. It is a stain on the Earth. I am a worse person for even having heard of it. There is no redemption for this cinematic trash heap, I only hope that the memory of the movie someday disappears from my brain.
Personally I think that a good movie should contain a good story, good screenplay, good visuals, good score, good acting, and most importantly good representation of all the other little things that happen in a movie.
Take a movie with a good story, good acting and cool things to look at. The only way to make it better is by synchronizing all of the little components of a film and making them tur into even bigger things than they usually are. Every once in a while you'll be watching a movie and think to yourself, wow this was a decent movie. Well it probably was decent because you saw the trailer or you were recommended it and didn't live up to your expectations. You might think to yourself, well this could have been a great movie if... And by saying if, you mean the lighting was better or the dialogue was developed more or even that a certain character had a better background story or bigger part in a movie. There are too many things that make a good movie to simply say that one thin rules above all. In my opinion the small things that go into making a movie are more important than what most people would think are the most important. Because if a movie just has a good story but terrible editing, its going to be a bad movie. If a movie has great editing but terrible acting, its not going to be a good movie. So my criteria for a good movie is to have all of the components of film be shown in a interesting way that is original (but its a good original not like oh let me film the whole movie upside down or let me film the movie like Cloverfield original).

The criteria I use to determine a good film is an interesting plot with either extremely fascinating, hilarious, or relatable (or all three!) characters that makes you leave the film not only have enjoyed and been entertained by what you have just watched, but also be able to take away something from the film. I know a lot of people are really into cool action, but a clever dialogue really does wonders for me and beautiful cinematography is always a huge plus. The directors and actors involved also make all the difference.
An example of a film that I find really good is Fight Club. The plot is extremely interesting and captivating and it is not only fun to watch, but it makes you think about society and teaches you. The characters are likeable and fascinating and I think the audio choices and the cinematography is great (the end never fails to give me chills)
Terror Toons is a terrible, terrible movie. It is unneccesarily violent and sexual and the set, acting, and directing are all completely horrid. It is a hot mess.
The criteria I currently use for determining a good movie is mostly based on the plot. I like an interesting and original plot. Also the movie must visually appeal me and have a sense of verisimilitude.
A good example is WhitvOrelander. I believe this is a good example because the story lone kept me engaged with the movie. Also because even though this was not happening, I felt it could happen which gives the movie a sense of realism. Lastly, the visuals were appealing due to different editing techniques.
A bad example is The Spirit. By watching the previews you got the whole movie. The movie did not have a clear storyline there for it was not interesting to watch. By the end of the movie I still could not figure out what was going on. It did not have the aspect of realism but it wasvisually appealing. A movie cannot just stand on visuals alone so without an intersting plot and sense of verisimilitude, The Spirit was a bad movie under my criteria.
